Boys and Girls Lacrosse held tryouts last week and practice began today.

Softball was able to get enough interest this year to have both Varsity and JV teams. Softball sold burritos and had a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s, which were both very successful. The manager of Applebee’s asked to have team photos and/or posters sent to him because he would like to hang them on the walls of the restaurant.
Girls Tennis held tryouts last week and 20 athletes tried out for 14 varsity positions. Twelve seniors have graduated and only two are returning to create a very “young” team.
Golf: Tryouts this year were actually held outside on a golf course due to the excellent weather and the first match will occur on April 11.
Crew has begun practice and was able to put in the dock so as to hold practices on the water instead of using the rowing machines indoors. The first regatta is called an Ergatta and will be held at FHC on Saturday, March 24. The competition will be performed on rowing machines called “Ergs”
Wrestling: Gabe Stepanovich took 2nd place at the state competition.

- At our winter coaches meeting we had CPR training that the boosters financed which was very helpful and the coaches feel much more comfortable.
- Corporate Sponsorships at the first meeting 6 people were in attendance. Due to the late startup we were hoping for 4 banners in the gym and at the start of the winter season and we far exceeded that benchmark, it looks like we will have 8 or 9. Some of our sponsors are: Lake MI Credit Union, MC Sports and a family with a company matching. We are very excited. The money generated from the sponsorship program will help in filling in the gap from what the boosters have been able to contribute. The money generated about 10% will go to printing costs and the rest will be split 50/50 to FHN athletic department and athletic boosters. Not only will we be collecting revenue to support our teams but we are also building some great partnerships. In January at our booster meeting we will recognize all our sponsors and we will also recognize them at a basketball game.

The Pretzel warmer has been fixed but the oven needs replacing. If anyone has an old oven they would like to donate to the boosters please let us know.
VIII. Athletic Supervisor Report
- Stephanie Hare
Great new opportunity to help us raise funds for our athletic teams, the district has approved Corporate Sponsorships and we are looking to put together a sub-committee from the boosters to find corporate sponsors. We don’t want to ask the corporate sponsors too many times. The sponsors will be able to purchase banners which we will display during the games. We need a group of people to help us to get this going. This is an awesome opportunity to help fill some gaps in supporting our sports teams. We are hopeful that this will help our teams with uniform purchases. We want to put out an organized effort.
I would like to thank the boosters and all of you for all the hard work and the approval of the funds to help support our teams.
We are looking at a realignment of the conferences, we are trying to get things settled but as of now we can’t do anything, no schedules or anything. Next vote is scheduled for November 1.

II. Booster Athletes of the Month
a) Cross Country (G) – Andrea Smith introduced the cross country coach, Joe Cucuro who introduced the athlete Terese Jenks. Terese has made a wonderful impact on being on this team. She has a great attitude, shows perseverance and strong ability. She works hard and has enjoyed every minute of cross country and is honored to be a part of the team.
b) Cross Country (B) – Mike Cook introduced the cross country coach, Joe Cucuro who introduced the athlete Grant Cook. Grant has been an amazing contribution to the team. Total Cash Balance: $73,723.09
Total Cash Available: $66,264.10
Very good start of the school year, over $12,000 in patron donations and the football games concessions have been very busy. So far we have generated $16,000 in concession sales.
VI. Volunteer Report
- Andrea Smith
Great turnout, thank you for all your recruiting efforts, great coverage; volunteers are showing up on time and providing great team effort. In a couple of weeks I hope to send out the winter schedules. Keep checking your emails daily I may be sending out additional need requests if events are rescheduled or there are new events.
VII. Concessions Report
- Gerri Winks and Mike Cook
Concessions sales have been great; the volunteers are doing a wonderful job. Just remember to remind the volunteers to bring a hat, tie long hair back or wear a hairnet in the concession stands, this is a health requirement and we don’t want to get fined for this infraction. The Pretzel warmer is broke and we may need to purchase a new one. We are looking in to getting it repaired but this appears to be a recurring cost and it might be wiser to purchase a new machine.
VIII. Athletic Supervisor Report
- Stephanie Hare
Everything is great, up and running. Football attendance and gate has been wonderful. We are hosting district soccer, regional golf & district and regional tennis.
46% of girls are participating for the year & 51% of the boys are participating for the year, we do not have the breakdown for the fall; we have 32 varsity sports.
IX. Committee Report
- Sport Program – Tami Brand
Fall program nearly to the printer. Fox Acura signed up to sponsor the premiere spot. The premiere spot is the back page. The Winter and Spring programs is still open for the premiere spot. So far $9500 for advertising dollars, more then pays for all three season printing of the program. Still have open spots if you know of someone who would like to advertise please let Tami know.
- Spirit Events – Jama Wolf
Everything is fantastic this year. Well run events the carnival was well supported, thank you. Still looking for someone to help especially would like to have representatives at the feeder schools. The events has done a lot for the school and brought in the fans. The principals of feeder schools love the program.
X. Old Business
- Golf Outing – Frank Jenks
Still need one golfer to pay and 3 advertisers to pay. If all money came in we probably just break $16,000. Hope to have all the breakdowns done by our next meeting. Next year plan to do it the 3rd Monday of August, still planning to hold it at Watermark. The monies will go to FHN Athletic department to help fund items that Athletic Boosters can’t fund. The Athletic department will receive 80% and the Athletic Boosters will receive 20%.
XI. New Business
- Athletic Trainer – Patty Sellner
3rd year at FHN and I enjoy it here very much. We were just awarded free software called Impact, provided by Dicks Sports they were offering 1500 versions in the country and because I was quick to request one and we were awarded a version. This software is nationally none and it will help with tracking concussions for our athletes. Basically a baseline test is done for all athletes and this will be one of the tools used to help determine if an athlete is ready to return back to the game after they suffered from a concussion. The test is pretty extensive covering memory, cognitive, and reflexes. We won’t get it installed for our fall athletes but we hope to have it in place for our winter athletes.
Patty has been using injury tracking software and requested monies to update the software, this year the company is moving the software via the web so now FHN trainers can access the software mobile. With this move there will be a yearly subscription fee and the boosters have Okayed this expense. There is a parent portal to input the information and eventually coaches will be able to access the information.
XII. Announcements
Just find a niche how best you can serve the boosters. Jim asked that each rep reach out to your younger families we know parents can get confused and we want to make sure that they are well informed. So please try to get to know your varsity parents as well as JV and freshman and the athletes. Make sure you are accessible. Get out and support our other sports.

There were a total of 46 hole signs, each sport had the opportunity to sell a hole sign for $150, and the team made $50 for each sign they sold. The top seller of signs was Ski Team with 7 signs. Total profit from the event about $14,000

- All Sports Workshops
A well attended event and Dale was a wonderful presenter and the presentations were well received. Three presentations were offered, a morning event to FHN athletes; afternoon event to FHN coaches; and an evening event to FHN parents.
We are looking for some feedback, what people thought of the event. One suggestion from this meeting was if we offer something like this next year that we open it up to athletes in the middle school.
